Vaping/smoking increase COVID-19 risks 5-7X

Stanford University School of Medicine research showed that young people who use e-cigarettes and/or smoke, increase their risk of contracting COVID-19 by five to seven times. More information is available at http://med.stanford.edu/tobaccopreventiontoolkit/COVID-19.html.

The research results were released in August, 2020.

Researchers explain that vaping or smoking tobacco or cannabis:

  • Damages lungs.

  • Harms the body’s immune system

  • Causes the lungs to produce more of the ACE2 receptor protein, which acts as a doorway for the virus.

In addition, those who reported smoking and were hospitalized due to pneumonia from COVID-19 were less likely to recover. That is, they were more likely to die or suffer long-term health consequences.

GOING SMOKE-FREE AND VAPE-FREE CAN LOWER THE RISK FOR A SEVER COVID-19 INFECTION.
